Every single one is washed before it's placed on the rack. ![]() The donated coats are gently worn, but each one looks practically new. ![]() "We have an entire family come in and we fit the father, mother, and all of the kids, grandmothers, grandfathers," said Capitol Cleaners Owner & Coats for Kids Program Founder Joe Petrozzi. The program is called Coats for Kids but they actually give away 4,000 to 5,000 coats a year to people of all ages. "We contribute to the schools, we contribute to the migrant farm workers, the vets, so what you see here this will all be gone by the end of the year," said Russ Petrozzi. This year, the program celebrates it's 50th anniversary. It started as just a few coats in the 1960s and it's grown ever since, even spreading across the country. "We collect coats all year long through the summer and early fall and we start cleaning them in the late fall," said Capitol Cleaners Vice President Russ Petrozzi.Īround this time every year, volunteers get warm winter garments ready to host two coat drives for people in need. ![]() At Capitol Cleaners, it's a sign of the season. ![]()
